Certificate of Fashion Design - Part Time
This course enables you to create a complete design portfolio that can launch you into the world of fashion design! Perfect for the creative brain - this course will enable you to express ideas and gain the knowledge that is required to create your own label, create for others or simply create bespoke designs.
Class size is restricted to approximately sixteen persons so students can work closely with the lecturer in an intimate workshop environment.
The ability to draw is an advantage. Students with little or no drawing skills are strongly advised to study this course in conjunction with the Certificate of Fashion Drawing and the Certificate of Life Drawing and CAD illustration, due to illustration being an important component of each assignment.

- History of fashion - 20th century.
- Elements of design.
- Principles of design.
- Trend forecasting.
- Sources of inspiration.
- Designing for various body types.
- Fabric and fibre studies.
- Styling and garment details.
- Range planning and merchandising.
- Specification drawing and trade sketching.
- Storyboards and mood boards.
- Communication skills.
- Designing stories and ranges for specific markets: street wear, evening wear, ready to wear, bridal.
- Costing and pricing.
- Fabric enhancement techniques.
Assessment
- Completion of set assignments on time and to the required standard.
Course Prerequisites
- Year 12 level preferred
- Ability to draw an advantage, but not essential if concurrently studying the Certificate of Fashion Drawing and the Certificate of Life Drawing and CAD Illustration or equivalent
